Born in Philadelphia, Michael’s first teaching work lasted 5 years in two of New York City’s innovative pre-schools in the early 1970s. After completing a Bachelor of Science degree and several ESL courses, Michael left his career as a training specialist and part-time rock musician, and moved from California to Czechoslovakia (then ČSFR) in February, 1992. While teaching at ČVUT, Michael joined the Czech rock band, Dux, as a bass guitarist and lyricist. Michael has taught children in private lessons throughout his time in the Czech Republic, and, after a post at Heyrovského Gymnázium and seven years with the Czech army as a language testing specialist, he joined the team at Open Gate in 2008. Michael is currently studying for his masters of education degree at the University of Missouri.
