Background

Being born in London, I lived in Muswell Hill in North London and then Totteridge, later

moving to the south and spending nearly 20 years in West Sussex in the busy town of

Horsham. In 1991 I moved to Prague, having met a charming young Czech maiden and

decided to stay … which is interesting when one considers that my mother and father come

from Austria and Hungary respectively. So, in a way I’ve come back to my roots in a

circumspect way. I’m married to a Czech wife, have 2 beautiful children and live very close

to Prague.

Education

I passed my GCSEs at Collier’s Sixth Form College in Horsham, West Sussex. After that, I

went on to do a Business Studies Course at ONC level. After a career change I then studied

and passed an ONC course in Electronics and Electrical Engineering.

After coming to The Czech Republic, I took various teaching courses including a TEFL

Certificate and have had 17 years of intensive teaching experience.

Employment

People say I’ve had a varied employment history, working for insurance companies, fire

alarm companies, a printing agency and then extensively for schools - the last 17 years. In

The Czech Republic I’ve worked in a secondary school in Štětí near Prague and in a number

of schools actually in the city, including Gymnázium Jana Keplera, one of the top schools in

the country.

Interests

Sports: squash, tennis, cross country and downhill skiing, rafting, cycling and horse riding.

Water sports: sailing and windsurfing.

Miscellaneous: reading, films, music, singing and occasionally playing the guitar, though I’m

a poor guitarist!

My job

I really enjoy teaching, and get special pleasure from nurturing young people and watching

them develop their skills, personality, self-confidence and knowledge. A teacher is often a

role model for children and one of my main aims is preparing them for life ‘on the outside’

after they leave school and have to live in a completely different world.
