Graduate Profile

Open Gate graduates are young people who:
- received their secondary education in an inspiring environment and an atmosphere of trust in students’ abilities.
- are ready to successfully pass entrance exams and study at universities and colleges, both in the Czech Republic and abroad.
- have the language skills necessary to enter foreign universities that teach classes in English.
By the end of their time at Open Gate, students will have studied IB Diploma courses leading to the award of this prestige, internationally acknowledged qualification. Our Czech students will also have had the opportunity to opt for sitting the requirements of the Czech State Maturita. In addition the school will continue to offer those students who require it, study aimed at CPE and CAE. qualification - have gained skills and developed abilities allowing them to quickly respond to new tasks and achieve academic, professional and personal success.
- are used to critical thinking, are not easily manipulated, are aware of their share of responsibility for the world in which they live, and acknowledge the power they have to change the world for the better.
After OPEN GATE
Since 2009 a total of 59 graduates left our school. All had achieved remarkable success and 7 of them graduated with International Baccalaureate Diploma in 2011 (the first cohort). Practically all OPEN GATE graduates who have chosen to continue their studies at a college or university in the Czech Republic or abroad have been successful. OPEN GATE students who have expressed an interest in studying at universities in the United States, Great Britain, Spain, Italy and Switzerland have been admitted, including the most prestigious (at universities in Great Britain, they have received conditional offers with the necessity of making a priority selection). Some of these students have been accepted by five universities!

Barbora Adlerova
- Born in Moravian Prusy.
- Before Open Gate Boarding school went to the primary school in Vyskov, Nadrazni 5.
- From 2008 – 2010 worked in a students cafe in Open Gate.
- Participated in many volunteer projects in the Czech Republic and abroad, such as NGO (Forum 2000), Czech Banat or Journey To The People (Brontosaurus Movement), Summer School for Secondary Development Cooperation (ARPOK), an organization of suburban camp for abandoned children in Ukraian Mukacheve (ADRA).
- The studies in Open Gate completed with excellent grades in IB exam.
- Now studies sociology at University of Warwick (Great Britain) with a financial support of The Kellner Family Foundation.
Tomáš Chvatal
- Born in Prague.
- Before Open Gate Boarding school in 2005 studied on high school Chodovicka in Horni Pocernice.
- Got the TIE certificate from English language. Another foreign language he studies is Italian.
- Among his hobbies are all sorts of sports from football and floorball to canoeing and paragliding. He is interested in economics and global issues.
- He participated in the Prague Student Model Of United Nations. He received a silver certificate from the international math contest Math Challenge.
- He fulfilled his dream after the IB exam in Open Gate and now studies finance at Aston University in Great Britain.
- He would like to successfully work in this sphere.
Simon Podhajsky
- Born in Prague.
- Before Open Gate Boarding school went to the high School Nad Alejí in Prague.
- World champion in online debates, vice-champion of Europe, four-time member of the national debating team and a member of historically first team to win the Czech and English Debate League.
- He was one of the couches of The Debate Club in Open Gate.
- Participated in national and international UN and NATO Models.
- He received the full score in the U.S. admission tests - SATs, as well as the CAE certificate and Goethe zertifikat B2.
- He likes to play Scrabble and floorball. He also plays guitar. He skis in winter and takes trips to the northern extreme conditions.
- He ended up the studies in Open Gate with excellent results in IB exam.
- Now he is studying at Yale University in the USA with the support from The Kellner Family Foundation. He was also accepted to Harvard University, Oxford University, University of York and University of Edinburgh.
Marie Salomonova
- Born in Prague.
- Before Open Gate went to Deutsche Schule Prag.
- During her studies in Open Gate got the Goethe Zertifikat Deutsch B2 and the FCE certificate from English language.In summer 2010 attended the Mid-IB Summer Course in University of Cambridge in Great Britain.
- She co-organized the school movie festival OGDoubleF.
- In her free time she had been visiting the students internship Academy of Science of ČR and lectures from the cycle “Progress in biology” on Charles University in Prague.
- Among her hobbies are biology, reading of The Little Prince and the poetry of the French Beat generation. She also enjoys to play Scrabble and to meet with her friends. She also actively fights against social stigma of psychic disorders.
- She ended the studies in Open Gate with excellent results in the IB exam.
- Now she is studying Neuroscience with Pharmacology at University of Nottingham in Great Britain.
- In the future she would like to come across in medicine. No matter whether as a doctor or a developer of the drugs.
Vaclav Soukup
- Born in Pilsen.
- Before he came to Open Gate in 2005 he went to Church school in Pilsen.
- He successfully participated in mathematical competitions and got Bronze and Silver certificate in Senior Math Challenge.
- His biggest hobbies are academic debates. He participated in many of these both at home and abroad. He is a member of the National online debate team and a World champion in online debating.
- Among his hobbies also are guitar playing, music and literature.
- He ekes out salary with programming and creating web pages.
- During his studies in Open Gate he served as a moderator of social events and traditional festivals.
- He ended the studies in Open Gate with excellent results in IB exam.
- Although he was accepted to several universities in the UK, he decided to continue his studies in the Czech Republic on Faculty of Mathematics and Physics in Prague and University of Economics at the same place.

Profiles of selected 2010 graduates BACK
Marcel Neuberger
Marcel came to Open Gate’s Kvarta class in its very first year of existence (2005). He comes from Slaný, although he has previously studied at the 7th Secondary School of Kladno. During his years at Open Gate, he helped several times with the organisation and promotion of the school’s annual film festival, took part in the production of several short films mostly concerning life at the school (Skiing Course, Language Day, The Best of the Outdoor Club, a History film about The Russian Revolution, a horror film set in the campus and the “Perfect Day” promotion video), and represented the school in debating and swimming. Marcel is applying for the Faculty of Law of the Masaryk University in Brno and the University of Defence, also in Brno.
Zuzana Matiášová
Zuzana comes from Prague, where she studied at the Českolipská Grammar School before transferring to Open Gate. In her studies she focused mostly on languages (FCE and CAE certificates, successful participation in Czech language competitions) and maths (bronze certificate in the UK Senior Mathematical Challenge three times, AS-level Mathematics and Statistics exams). She has also gained the Bronze Certificate of the Duke of Edinburgh Award and represented the school at the national finale of the Logic Olympics. She would like to apply her interest in mathematics and linguistics to the study of mathematical linguistics; that is why she has chosen to go study at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at Charles University in Prague.
Romana Kašparová
Romana came to Open Gate’s Kvarta class in 2005. She comes from South Bohemia and is based in Písek at the moment. During her time at Open Gate she engaged in activities such as singing (both solo and in a choir), dancing (Latin and belly dancing) and sports (athletics, swimming). She gained a TIE (Test of Interactive English) diploma as well as a TOEFL (Test Of English as a Foreign Language) diploma at Open Gate. She can also boast bronze and silver Duke of Edinburgh Award certificates and the Headmaster’s Award for Excellent Service to the Open Gate Community. Romana had received conditional offers from Universities of Chester, Brighton and Plymouth in the UK. In the future she would like to pursue a career in diplomacy and international relations.
Tereza Vildová
Tereza was admitted to the Kvarta class at Open Gate in the first year of its existence (2005). She comes from Prague and has previously studied at the Novoborská Secondary School and the Ústavní 400 Grammar School. During her studies she displayed an active interest in languages and is now to take the CAE exam as a part of the admission process for British universities. She represented the school in sports, predominantly swimming. In 2010 she received conditional offers from the University of Bristol, the University of Brighton and the University of Chester. She is planning to study Economics in one of these universities. In the future she would like to apply her education to a career in business and management.
Jolana Venenyová
Jolana came to Open Gate’s Kvarta class in 2005. She hails form Karviná, where she studied at the Karviná Grammar School. During her years at Open Gate she has gained numerous internationally accepted certificates in English, namely TIE, PET, FCE and IELTS. She attended the International Festival of Tolerance (as a part of the Facing History and Ourselves programme) that was held in Terezín concerning the Holocaust. In 2009 she travelled to Cairo for a student exchange trip with the Modern English School. Jolana successfully applied to several universities around the world and has decided to study International Relations and Political Science at the University of Dundee with financial aid from THE KELLNER FAMILY FOUNDATION. In the future she would like to work in the field of diplomacy or intelligence.
Marek Svoboda
Marek transferred to Open Gate in 2005 from the Lesní čtvrť Grammar School in Zlín. At Open Gate he dedicated himself to the study Mathematics, proving his qualities in this filed by winning the regional round of the Mathematical Olympics and gaining two gold Maths Challenge certificates. He was also an active member of the Debating Society, representing the school on both national and international level. During the course of his studies he has gained the FCE language certificate and successfully passed the SAT exams (2140/2400), the SAT Subject Tests (2260/2400) and TOELF iBT exams (113/120) as a part of the admission process for American universities as well as attending a three week preparatory course at the Columbia University, which has surely contributed to his eventual admission to this prestigious institution. There he is going to study Psychiatry with a generous financial aid from THE KELLNER FAMILY FOUNDATION.
Ondřej Sitta
Ondřej comes from a small town called Zábřeh in north west Moravia. In 2002 he moved with his parents to Prague, where he went to the private gymnasium of Josef Seifert. In 2005 he transferred to Open Gate as a student of kvarta. Throughout his education he committed himself to various project (from the film festival to the floor ball league), he spent his last year at the school preparing for studying in Great Britain. He successfully completed the IELTS (band 7) English language exams. In 2010 he was accepted to several prestigious British universities from which he chose the University of Exeter, where he will be studying Management with Leadership. Thanks to his good grades his study in Britain will be funded by THE KELLNER FAMILY FOUNDATION. In the future he would like to get into the area business.
Dessi Tatcheva
Dessi is originally from Bulgaria, from where she moved with her parents to the Czech Republic. The first year of her high school education she was at the Buďánka gymnasium in Prague. She came to Open Gate in 2006 to kvinta. She concentrated her studies in economics and languages – she completed the internationally approved exams FCE and CAE. In 2010 she was accepted to the University of Exeter in Great Britain. Her studies will be mostly funded by THE KELLNER FAMILY FOUNDATION. In the future she would like to pursue a career in business or management.
Viktor Brejcha
Viktor was one of the first students to come to Open Gate to kvarta in 2005. Until he came to Open Gate, he was studying at the Gutova elementary school with expanded teaching of mathematics. From his first days at OG, he tried to take part in most activities from which few became more important and also fateful for his future plans. In high school he tried to widen his knowledge in the areas of mechanics, design, art and music. One of his biggest successes was winning the international art competition which is organized by the company Unilever and the displaying of his work “Zásuvka” (or in English, “ The Plug“) in the Tate Modern Gallery of London. Viktor can boast a long co-operation with the architect Jan Malec and many more achievements in sports and music. In the five years he has been with us he has become an essential part of the organizing team of OG. There was no event that Viktor didn't help with in some way and was always trying to ensure the smooth proceedings of the event. At this moment Viktor is one of the students who is already accepted to a university. After his maturita he will go to ČVUT in Prague to the Faculty of Architecture where he will study Architecture and Urbanism. In years to come, he would like to do a student exchange and go study shipbuilding and design in an oceanic country. As he says, “My lifetime goal is to change the world for a better future.” This is how he was, is and always will be, Viktor Brejcha a student of the maturita year 2009/2010.
Jaroslav Čech
Jaroslav came to Open Gate from the Nový Knín elementary school and therefor has been part of the Open Gate communty from the very beginning (2005). During his five year time here he dedicated himself mainly to sport and singing. He did not abandon his previous hobbies, in which he kept getting better and thanks to that he achieved a professional level in magic tricks. During his time here he managed to complete the internationally recognized English language certificate PET and now is readying himself for another exam (IELTS), and that is three days after his maturita. In addition, he got the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award. Jaroslav got a conditional acceptance to all the British Universities he applied to. As his main study subjects, he chose history and international relations. After finishing college he would like to work for the European Union or another international organization.

Profiles of selected 2009 graduates BACK
Branko Černý
Branko Černý entered our school as a fifth-form student in OPEN GATE’s first year (2005). In the course of his studies at OPEN GATE, Branko dedicated himself to languages and received the internationally recognized Certificate of Proficiency in English and DELE certificate in Spanish. During admissions processes at universities in the United States he scored highly on several standardised tests: SAT Reasoning Test (2210/2400), SAT Subject Tests (2360/2400) and TOEFL iCT (118/120). Branko was admitted to prestigious universities, including King’s College London, the University of Leicester and the University of Aberdeen in Great Britain, and decided to attend Dartmouth College in the United States, where he began classes in September 2009.
Petr Bulka
Petr Bulka entered our school as a fifth-form student in OPEN GATE’s first year (2005). He is from Klatovy, where he attended Gymnázium J. Vrchlického. During his studies Petr earned the internationally recognized Certificate in Advanced English and IELTS certificate, as well as the Goethe-Zertifikat of German. He was also the first OPEN GATE student to successfully pass the complete British GCE A-level leaving examinations in geography, history and sociology. In 2009 Petr was admitted to the University of Birmingham in Great Britain, where he decided to take major in international relations and economics. This has been made possible by financial aid from THE KELLNER FAMILY FOUNDATION, which has kindly committed to paying the high costs associated with Petr’s studies. In future, Petr would like to work for European Union bodies or in the Czech diplomatic corps.
Kamila Hrušková
Kamila Hrušková entered our school as a fifth-form student in OPEN GATE’s first year (2005) and subsequently completed the four-year upper-level study programme. Kamila is from North Moravia, where she studied at Gymnázium Mikuláše Koperníka in Bílovec. Kamila dedicated herself primarily to studying French and English, in which she earned the internationally recognised First Certificate in English, Certificate in Advanced English and Certificate of Proficiency in English. She also passed the British leaving examination in geography and earned, among other awards, the Silver Diploma from the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme and the Bronze Certificate in the UK Maths Challenge. In 2009 Kamila was conditionally admitted to a number of universities in Great Britain, though she decided to continue her education in the Czech Republic and entered Silesian University in Opava (major in Social Patology) at the end.
Martin Ciklamini
Martin Ciklamini began his studies at OPEN GATE in 2005, having come from a primary school with enhanced instruction in the natural sciences. He is a six-year resident of the Children’s Home in Boršov nad Vltavou. During his studies, Martin dedicated himself to languages and earned the internationally recognised Certificate in Advanced English and IELTS and DELE certificates. In his free time, Martin studied IT technologies and regularly participated in professional conferences, such as Cisco Expo and Google Developer Day. In 2009 Martin was admitted to London Metropolitan University, Department of Leadership and Management, where he started to study thanks to a stipend from THE KELLNER FAMILY FOUNDATION. He sees his future in management or as a trainer of other managers.
Darek Jakubowicz
Darek Jakubowicz came to OPEN GATE in 2005. He is from Prague. During his studies he actively dedicated himself especially to languages and earned the internationally recognised Certificate in Advanced English. He represented the school in sports. In 2009 he was accepted at several universities in Great Britain and he decided to attend the University of Manchester, where he focuses on business studies and economics. Darek would like to apply his education in the field of business.
OPEN GATE’s students travel abroad to further their education not only after graduation; some do so while still enrolled at our school. In 2007 one of our students was awarded a two-year stipend to attend United World College in New Mexico. In 2009 our student received a two-year stipend to attend UWC Southeast Asia in Singapore. Another of our students received a two-year stipend to attend Westminster School in the American state of Connecticut in 2008
