Grammar School

Open Gate Boarding School is a private grammar school with a special focus on living languages, especially English. It is based on boarding-school principles and offers year-round accommodation and board. Open Gate classes use their own textbooks and materials approved by the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports of the Czech Republic. Approval for course materials relevant to our IB Programme has been given by the IBO Accreditation Committee, Geneva, Switzerland.

Intensive bi-lingual classes.  In the Junior Gymnazium, years One to Four, classes are taught in the main in Czech, but a strong effort is made in even these early year groups to focus upon the skills of communicative and written English. This is necessary as the move to Senior Gymnazium, Years Five to Eight, requires strong English Language proficiency in order to be able to study all of the Pre-IB and thereafter the Diploma Programme exclusively in English. The Pre-IB curriculum, Years Five and Six, is essentially a two year preparation for the Diploma Programme studied in the final years, Seven and Eight.

Small classesallow teachers to have an individual approach to all students. Experienced and accredited IB teachers employ class formats that promote abilities and skills such as discussion, projects, experiments, problem solving, and accepting responsibility for the results of one’s work. The focus being upon individual research and development. Classes take place in modern language, IT, and science labs with specialised equipment. All this makes for the ideal learning environment.

Academic education is combined with an effort to raise good and fair-minded people who are able to make meaningful use of their free time as well and contribute to their own development and the growth of others. For these purposes, Open Gate offers a wide range of extracurricular activities under the auspices of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme that support skills gained in classes: creativity, physical fitness, interest in the arts, nature, and practical skills.
