Graduates by year

In 2009 the first graduates left Open Gate. They were accepted to universities in the Czech Republic and the world. Each year, about a half of the students choose to study abroad. The countries of interest are Great Britain, the United States, Switzerland or Spain. Most students choose from a number of universities to which they have been accepted.

Adéla Zíková
  • Adela was born in České Budějovice.
  • Before coming to Open Gate in 2013, she attended Townshend International School.
  • She earned the Bronze and Silver Certificates of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
  • She was a member of the Open Gate debate team.
  • Her hobbies are reading, debating and ice-hockey.
  • She completed her Open Gate studies with the IB Diploma and the Czech Maturita.
  • She received conditional acceptance to a number of universities she applied to in the UK; she chose the University of Reading, to study Psychology. The Kellner Family Foundation kindly contributes to financing her studies abroad.
  • In the future she would like to work as a psychologist and she says she would like to try working as a taxi-driver for awhile.

  • She participated in several debate tournaments.
  • She holds the Gold Certificate of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
  • Her hobbies include playing the piano, reading and sleeping.
  • She finished her studies at Open Gate with IB certificates in Biology, Chemistry and English and the Czech Maturita.
  • She studies at the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague in the field of Forensic Analysis.

Barbora Stejskalová
  • Barbora was born in Dvůr Králové nad Labem.
  • Before coming to Open Gate in 2010, she attended Základní škola Dvůr Králové nad Labem.
  • She earned the Bronze, Silver and Gold Certificates of The Duke of Edinburgh's Award.
  • She was a member of the editorial team of the school magazine OG NOTes and a goal-tender in the school floorball league.
  • She spends her free time working as a waitress and teaching English at summer camps; she also enjoys golf and is a floorball instructor.
  • Barbora completed her studies at Open Gate with the IB Diploma and Czech Maturita.
  • For the time being, Barbora has decided to stay in the Czech Republic and attend Akcent College, to study English as a Foreign Language. The Kellner Family Foundation kindly contributes to financing her studies in Prague.
  • In the future she would like to work as a translator and/or English and Spanish teacher.

​Daniel Andrle
  • Daniel was born in Děčín.
  • Before coming to Open Gate in 2013, he studied at Gymnázium Děčín.
  • He’s the holder of the Silver and Gold Certificates of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
  • He was a member of the Student Council and of the editorial team of the school magazine the OG Chronicle.
  • His hobbies include badminton and theatrical shows. He also dedicates his free time to literature, language and writing.
  • He completed his studies at Open Gate with outstanding results in the IB and the Czech Maturita.
  • He studies at The University of Edinburgh in the field of German and English language with the generous support of The Kellner Family Foundation.
  • In the future, he would like to study Czech, English and German language. Later on, he would like to combine his language knowledge with marketing.

Denisa Nová
  • Denisa was born in Pilsen.¨
  • She attended Masaryk Grammar School in Pilsen before joining Open Gate in 2009.
  • She took part in debating events as well as The Duke of Edinburg’s Award.
  • She was a member of the Open Gate debating club.
  • In her spare time, she enjoys playing the piano, floorball and athletics.
  • She finished her studies at Open Gate with IB certificates in Chemistry, German, English and with the Czech Maturita.
  • Although she was accepted to several universities in Ireland, she decided to study at the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague, in the field of Microtechnology and Nanotechnology in Chemical Engineering, thanks to the generous support of The Kellner Family Foundation.

Jan Krajník

Jan Krajník
  • Jan was born in Chomutov.
  • He studied at ZŠ Chomutov prior coming to Open Gate in 2009.
  • He was awarded the Gold Certificate of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
  • He participated in a number of sport competitions and was a member of the OG floorball team.
  • His favorite hobby is floorball, but he also plays the guitar in his free time.
  • He graduated with excellent results in the IB Diploma Program and the Czech Maturita.
  • With the generous support of The Kellner Family Foundation, he now studies at The University of Aberdeen majoring in Psychology.
  • In the future he would like to work in psychology and sports.

Jana Murmaková
  • Jana was born in Kladno.
  • Before joining Open Gate in 2010, she studied at ZŠ Stochov.

Lukáš Kotlár

Lukáš Kotlár
  • Lukas was born in Brno.
  • He studied at ZŠ Uherský Ostroh prior coming to Open Gate in 2009.
  • He was a member of the OG Student Council and a member of the Czech animation team.
  • He took part in Sir Nicolas Winton’s nominating campaign for the Nobel Peace Prize.
  • His hobbies are playing musical instruments, performing as an MC, photography, dancing, sports and eating.
  • He is interested and very active in the world of media; he is the Editor-in-Chief of Zámeček (a magazine for children in foster homes and orphanages).
  • He was awarded the Bronze, Silver and Gold Certificates of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE). He is an ambassador and a project coordinator for the national office of DofE.
  • He visited with the members of British royal family in Great Britain
  • Lukas is proactive in the welfare of abused children, attends panel discussions, and collaborates with non-profit organizations on these issues.
  • Thanks to his studies at Open Gate, he has visited England, Austria, Spain, India, and Romania.
  • He graduated with IB certificates in English and Spanish and excellent results in the Czech Maturita.
  • With the generous support of The Kellner Family Foundation, Lukas studies at CEVRO Institute, majoring in political studies and international relations.

· In the future, he would love to be involved in politics and the media. He is keen on traveling and doing extreme sports.

Marek Skalník
  • Marek was born in Chomutov.
  • Before coming to Open Gate in 2010, he attended ZŠ Hornická, Chomutov.
  • He took part in The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, as well as both the Junior and Senior Mathematical Challenges.
  • He was a member of the OG Student Council and participated in the school floorball league.
  • He devotes his free time to the study of foreign languages.
  • He completed his studies at Open Gate with outstanding performance in IB Diploma and the Czech Maturita exam.
  • He received conditional acceptance to most of the universities in the UK and Hongkong he applied to; he decided to attend The University of Manchester, the study of Management (Innovation, Sustainability and Entrepreneurship). The Kellner Family Foundation kindly contributes to financing his studies in the UK.
  • In the future he would like to study Global Management and then continue for his MBA in Management.

​Marshel Hembrom
  • Marshel was born in Joypurhat, Bangladesh.
  • Before coming to Open Gate in 2013, he studied at St. Joseph Higher Secondary School in Dhace.
  • He earned the English certificate IAS.
  • He worked as an IT teacher’s assistant at a high school in Bangladesh; he helped in a sanatorium and he took part in volunteering.
  • His hobbies include music, and he used to play bass guitar in a band.
  • He dedicates his free time to sport, especially to badminton, cricket, billiards, football and floorball.
  • He completed his studies at Open Gate with IB Certificates from English, Economics and Mathematics.
  • He was accepted at Prague College where he would like to start studying this summer term.
  • In the future, he would like to work for a software company.

Martin Jeřábek
  • Martin was born in Prague.
  • Prior to coming to Open Gate in 2009, he studied at ZŠ Plamínková in Prague.
  • He participated in debates, history competitions and The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award events.
  • His hobbies are fencing and archery. In his free time he enjoys long-distance running; he has participated in several half-marathons.
  • He graduated from Open Gate with IB certificates in English and German and with the Czech Maturita.
  • He is currently a student at The College of Economics in Prague, majoring in Public Administration and Regional Studies.
  • In the future, he would like to have a job that encompases all of his moral beliefs.

Michaela Flegrová
  • Michaela was born in Brno.
  • Before coming to Open Gate in 2009, she studied at Gymnázium a obchodní akademie Mariánské Lázně.
  • Apart from other mathematical competitions, she participated in the International Mathematical Challenge and Senior Mathematical Challenge where she received golden certificates.
  • She is the holder of the Bronze and Silver Certificates of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
  • She was an active debater for four years and competed in the English Debating League.
  • She was a member of the Student Council and of the editorial team of the school magazine OG NOTes.
  • She dedicates her free time to creative writing, extreme sports and reading.
  • She completed her studies at Open Gate with outstanding results in the IB and the Czech Maturita.
  • She studies at Imperial College London in the field of Physics.
  • After she finishes her studies, she would like to become a professional mother.

Michaela Zemachová
  • Michaela was born in Brno.
  • She attended Gymnázium Dr. Antona Randy in Jablonec nad Nisou before joining Open Gate in 2009.
  • She earned the Bronze, Silver and Gold Certificates of The Duke of Edinburgh's Award; she participated in IPPF Debate, the World Scholar's Cup, and the Dhirubhai Ambani International Model United Nations (DAIMUN).
  • She was a class representative to the OG Student Council.
  • Her hobbies are music, history and social sciences. She dedicates her free time to singing (both solo and choral), theatre and spending time with friends.
  • She completed her studies at Open Gate with outstanding performances in the IB Diploma Programme and the Czech Maturita.
  • Michaela received conditional acceptance to all of the universities she applied to in the UK, however she decided to attend The University of Edinburgh, to study Social Work; she will be studying thanks to the generous support of The Kellner Family Foundation.

Mikuláš Benda
  • Mikuláš was born in Roudnice nad Labem.
  • Before coming to Open Gate in 2010, he attended ZŠ and MŠ Hoštka.
  • He earned the Bronze Certificate of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
  • He participated in the floorball league and in the legendary floorball night’s half marathon.
  • His hobbies include bodybuilding, football and floorball.
  • He completed his studies at Open Gate with the IB and the Czech Maturita.
  • Even though he received conditional acceptance from Royal Holloway, the University of London, he decided to stay in the Czech Republic and study at the First Faculty of Medicine at Charles University. The Kellner Family Foundation kindly contributes to financing his studies.
  • In the future, he would like to work in a biochemical laboratory or find a job that combines medicine and biochemistry.

Petr Maňas

Petr Maňas
  • Petr was born in Zlín.
  • Before joining Open Gate in 2009, he attended Říčany Grammar School. Before studying in Říčany, he was home educated.
  • He participated in numerous mathematical competitions. He obtained the Silver Certificate in the Intermediate Mathematical Challenge and the Bronze Certificate in the Senior Mathematical Challenge.
  • He is a holder of the Silver Certificate in The Duke of Edinburgh´s Award.
  • He was a member of the Student Council where he was responsible for IT.
  • Among his interests he counts cardistry (card flourishing) and computer programming.
  • He completed his studies at Open Gate with excellent results not only in the Czech Maturita exam but also at the IB level.
  • He received conditional admission to a number of excellent universities in the UK. He is currently studying at the University of Edinburgh in the field of Software Engineering where he is supported financially by The Kellner Family Foundation.
  • In the future he would like to work as a web developer.

Tomislav Procházka

Tomislav Procházka
  • Tom was born in Česká Lípa.
  • Before coming to Open Gate in 2011, Tom attended the Gymnázium of Česká Lípa.
  • He took part in numerous debate competitions, was a member of Czech National Debating Team, was on the 2015 winning team in the English Debating League, and was awarded the Best Speaker of 2015 Award.
  • He was the President of the OG Student Council and Chairman of the nominating campaign for Sir Nicholas Winton’s candidacy for the Nobel Peace Prize.
  • He counts debating as his main hobby, but devotes his free time to ice-hockey and tennis.
  • Tom completed his studies at Open Gate with outstanding performances in the IB Diploma Programme and the Czech Maturita.
  • He received acceptance from a number of prestigious US universities; he decided to attend the University of Virginia, where he plans to study Economics. He will be taking a gap year to first gain work experience at a Prague HSBC branch office.
