Field trip to Terezín

2/23/2010

On Tuesday, February 23rd, kvarta students are going to visit the Terezín Memorial  in order to take part in an educational workshop on the Holocaust.

Our students are currently learning about modern history in their lessons and an important part of the school history curriculum is the Holocaust.

Students have already met with this issue many times and not only in history classes. There have also been screenings of documentary films and discussions with Holocaust witnesses at Open Gate. On Tuesday they will visit one of the saddest places in the Czech Republic, where more than 155 000 people passed through the Terezín Ghetto from 1941 till 1945 and over 35 000 died here as a result of stress, hunger, and the atrocious accommodation and hygienic conditions. The seminar’s program includes a lecture on the history of the Ghetto,  a visit to the museum, a walk through the Ghetto and the Small Fortress and also a debate with eye-witness.
