Open Gate Grammar School Begins the 2026/27 School Year

In the new 2026/27 school year, we welcomed a total of 418 pupils and students to Open Gate: 105 at the primary school and 313 at the eight-year grammar school.

This year, 36 new students joined the two first-year grammar school classes. They were introduced to the rest of the school on the first Monday of September during a ceremonial whole-school assembly. For the first time this year, they took to the stage accompanied by final-year students, who symbolically presented them with ribbons to mark the beginning of their time at Open Gate.

Scholarship recipients supported in their studies at Open Gate by The Kellner Family Foundation once again make up a significant proportion of our grammar school students. In the 2026/27 school year, a total of 94 students are studying at Open Gate with the Foundation’s support. They include motivated young people from children’s homes and foster care, as well as exceptionally gifted children from middle-income backgrounds. All of them successfully passed the school’s entrance examinations and also demonstrated their abilities during the Foundation’s scholarship selection process.

Almost one third of our grammar school students, 102 in total, live in the boarding houses on the school campus during the week. This year, students from every region of the Czech Republic except the Zlín Region are represented at Open Gate. In addition to Prague and the Central Bohemian Region, the largest numbers of students come from the South Bohemian, Hradec Králové and Ústí nad Labem regions.
