School Library Open Gate

The school library is a place where a love of books begins and grows. From an early age, pupils and students discover the world of books here as a natural and joyful part of both learning and leisure. The library is an inspiring space that opens the door to new ideas, nurtures imagination and develops reading skills.

A place for reading, study and inspiration

The library is a quiet, calm environment designed for undisturbed reading, reflection and study.
During the morning timetable, pupils and students come here for selected Czech language and literature lessons focused on developing reading literacy. In the afternoons, the space belongs mainly to boarding students and to all readers for whom a book is the ideal companion.

The library offers nearly 40,000 volumes, clearly organised, alphabetically arranged and sorted into categories.

A wide selection of books, services and experiences

Each Open Gate student receives a full set of textbooks and the required reading collection for their grade level once a year. Alongside Czech textbooks, books and publications, our library also holds literature in English and other languages taught at Open Gate, including textbooks and titles required for the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme.

We offer far more than required or academic reading. Lovers of fiction, poetry, comics and magazines will also find plenty to choose from. Those looking for a shared activity can pick from a selection of board games — perfect for spending time together with classmates.

The library also serves as the school’s printing and copying centre, providing support to pupils and teachers from across campus.

We regularly host author talks, creative workshops and public readings. We present new book releases and prepare themed displays featuring carefully selected titles that are truly worth reading.

For the school and the wider community

The library is open to Open Gate students and staff every weekday from 7:00 to 19:00 (until 13:00 on Fridays).

It also serves as the public library for the residents of Babice. The library is open to the public once a week, every Wednesday afternoon from 14:00 to 19:00.
