Admission Procedure to Grammar School

We are an eight-year grammar school offering a broad, general education in line with the official Czech curriculum. Children apply to join in Year One (Prima) after completing the fifth grade of primary school. Each year we open two classes, with a maximum of 18 students in each. Entry into higher grades is only possible if a place becomes available.

Nationwide comparisons of applicants to eight-year grammar schools based on the Cermat test are misleading. The results must be seen in a broader context, says Open Gate Principal Petra Dobešová in her commentary.

Open Days

During our Open Day, you will experience the unique atmosphere of Open Gate, explore the entire campus, and meet our teachers, school leadership and students. Open Days are held twice a year, in November and January.

The joint Open Day for both the primary school and the grammar school will take place on 20 November 2025 and 22 January 2026, starting at 4:00 p.m.

Would you like to visit our campus outside the official Open Days? Get in touch with us and we will be happy to arrange an individual tour. We will guide you through the campus and answer all your questions.

Admissions & Application

The admissions procedure consists of three parts, each with a different weight:

  • results of state Czech language test – 30 %
  • results of state mathematics test – 30 %
  • results of spoken interview – 40 %

The state exams are prepared by the Cermat agency. You can get an idea of what to expect from these requirements from the practice tests published on the agency’s website

An application form can be downloaded from the website of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. You can find it under the heading Print a Secondary Education Application Form. Please fill in the form and send it to Open Gate, for the attention of Jana Hojerová by 20th February 2026. Jana will also be happy to answer any other questions you may have regarding the school’s admissions procedure.

It is now also possible to apply to study at Open Gate Grammar School electronically via admission procedure information system, which also includes a digital application system (DIPSY) - you can enter the system here

An application form or extract from DIPSY can be submitted to the school via data box (ID: abvrh5r).

Complete information on the acceptance procedure and its criteria for the school year 2026/2027 can be found here (in Czech), or you can contact Luděk Michalik, Deputy Head Teacher for administration.

Tuition Fees & Scholarships

Open Gate is a private school, and therefore tuition fees are required. For the school year 2025/2026, the annual tuition for students who commute to school daily (day students) is CZK 282,000.

Thanks to The Kellner Family Foundation, we are able to offer both social and academic scholarships to our grammar school students. Since the school was founded in 2005, 417 students have already received a social scholarship.

Admission to Upper Grades of Grammar School

If there are available places, it is possible to apply for admission to the Open Gate eight-year grammar school in higher grades as well. What matters most to us is the student’s motivation and academic potential. The admission process takes place in two ways:

a) by transfer from a multi-year grammar school or foreign school
b) by opening an extraordinary admission procedure to the upper years of the grammar school for primary school students

For more information, please contact Jana Hojerová from the school secretariat.
