Admission Criteria and Specifications
- A maximum of 36 applicants will be admitted, i.e., 2 classes.
- The admission procedure is open to applicants who will complete the 5th grade of elementary school in June 2026.
- To participate in the admission process, the applicant must submit a properly completed application for study, including its attachments, in the prescribed form and within the deadline.
- The admission procedure consists of the state-mandated unified entrance exam for Czech language and mathematics and the school entrance exam.
- School Entrance Exam Details
- The school entrance exam consists of a written test of general study abilities, which primarily assesses the ability to study at the eight-year gymnasium (the exam is based on the general study skills expected of 4th and 5th-grade students in the Czech educational system), and an oral part aimed at getting to know the applicant better, particularly their motivation for studying at the gymnasium and their overall preparedness, social, and communication skills.
- The oral part of the school entrance exam consists of a group activity followed by an individual interview with the applicant.
- The oral part lasts approximately 20 minutes: 5 minutes for group activity, 15 minutes for the individual interview.
- The written general study ability test is given in a group setting and is expected to last approximately 30 minutes.
Admission Exam Criteria
1. Unified entrance exam
- Czech language and literature – max. 50 points
- Mathematics and its applications – max. 50 points
2. School entrance exam
- Written general study ability test – max. 10 points
- Oral part of the school entrance exam – max. 30 points
Previous academic performance (grades) does not count as a scored criterion in the admission process, but will be considered in case of ties in the point scores (as described below).
Admission Evaluation
- The result of the unified written entrance exam in Czech and MAT constitutes 60% of the overall result (30% for Czech and 30% for MAT).
- The result of the school entrance exam constitutes 40%.
- The success of applicants in the admission procedure is determined by their performance in each part, weighted accordingly.
- In case of a tie in the results, the applicant with the better average grade from the end of the 4th grade and the first half of the 5th grade will be ranked higher. If this criterion does not break the tie, the applicant with the better result in the school entrance exam will be ranked higher.
Announcement of Results and Further Provisions
- The results of the 1st round of admissions will be announced on May 15, 2026. Results will be published anonymously under the applicant’s registration number on the school’s website www.opengate.cz and on the school’s secretary’s office door for at least 15 days. They will also be available in the DIPSY system.
- The legal guardian of the applicant may, after prior telephone arrangement with the school secretary, inspect the applicant’s file. The date for file inspection is set for May 14, 2026.
- The applicant is accepted for study upon the publication of the admission notice, as mentioned above.
- The written decision of the school principal regarding acceptance or non-acceptance for education will not be issued in writing for individual applicants and will not be sent to them.
- If the applicant is admitted to a school but does not want or cannot attend, they should forfeit their admission (in the given round of the admission process), i.e., the applicant will submit a “Forfeiture of Admission.” The school will record this information in the DIPSY system. If the applicant is accepted and does not forfeit their admission, they cannot participate in the second or subsequent rounds of the admission procedure for other secondary schools in the given academic year.
