Report: The DofE Award Ceremony in Kutná Hora

On Friday, 24 January, we set out with Mr Roskot and our classmates who completed the Silver level of the DofE Award programme to attend the official ceremony in Kutná Hora. The event took place in the Gallery of the Central Bohemian Region (GASK) and was held in the presence of Executive Director Gabriela Drastichová and Regional Manager Eva Benešová. Silver Award recipients received their certificates, silver pins, and a complimentary ticket to the GASK gallery.
We arrived with plenty of time to spare, which allowed us to enjoy a walk through the historic centre, especially the stunning St Barbara’s Church. When we later entered the venue, we were all taken aback by the immense hall packed with people. What we did not expect was another surprise waiting just moments ahead. Our classmate Kryštof had signed up to deliver a speech, but due to illness he couldn't attend. We therefore had to find replacements—Ondra and Janča stepped in and handled the task brilliantly.
An orchestra from a local grammar school added to the ceremonial atmosphere. Our school was the first to be called up to receive certificates, which caught us a bit off guard but also spared us the stress of waiting. Even Mr Roskot enjoyed a moment in the spotlight when he was invited on stage along with other programme leaders. The ceremony concluded with a message of praise from the Duke of Edinburgh himself, delivered through a video address. Afterwards, a photo booth and refreshments awaited us—and everyone headed there immediately.
And how do we feel about the DofE experience as a whole? We would recommend it to anyone, if only for the unforgettable memories from the expeditions.
We’re already looking forward to the Gold level and hope that perhaps you, too, will one day take part in this ceremony.
