Another Year of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Behind Us

Autumn is traditionally a time for our students to reflect on their progress and complete their levels of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award (DofE). This year, we are celebrating the achievements of dozens of participants at the Bronze and Silver levels and looking forward to the upcoming certificate ceremony. More than fifty students have enrolled in the programme this school year, confirming DofE as an important part of our extracurricular life.

As in previous years, autumn is the period when students complete their activities so they can successfully finish their respective levels and receive their certificates. To recap: at our school, this comprehensive programme aimed at personal development outside the classroom is available to students in Year 5 (Bronze), Year 6 (Silver), and Year 7 (Gold).

In the past school year, a total of 42 participants took part in DofE at the Bronze and Silver levels. The successful Bronze Award recipients received their certificates at the beginning of November during a whole-school assembly, presented by a special guest from the national DofE office, Ms Eva Benešová. In total, 19 students were awarded, with another six expected to complete their Bronze level in the coming weeks and receive their certificates afterwards.

Our successful Silver Award participants can look forward to the official ceremony in Kutná Hora, which will take place in the second half of January and is dedicated to all Silver Award recipients from the Central Bohemian Region. We expect as many as 18 representatives from our school—almost two dozen of our Year 6 students have fulfilled all the requirements and will be able to enjoy the festive atmosphere traditionally associated with the Award ceremony.

Student registration for this year’s DofE programme is currently underway and interest is once again high. It appears that we will have participants at all three levels this year, with the total number exceeding fifty students.

Finally, a big thank-you to our team of teachers—more than ten of them are involved in supporting the programme. Without their commitment, we would not be able to offer DofE on such a large scale. Thank you!
