At Open Gate, Monika helps students with special education needs and speech impediments. As an educational counsellor, she helps students improve their performance or deal with issues affecting them. She has long enjoyed bibliotherapy and the positive impact of reading and its development among young people with special learning needs. She is also interested in the education of left-handed children. As a speech therapist, she enjoys discovering new and different ways of doing speech therapy.

Experience
While studying at the University of Illinois and the University of Michigan (USA), Monika devoted herself to students with special learning needs. She is a certified teacher in the Maxík stimulus programme for children, the KUPOZ attention development programme and the 'Perceptive Weakening in School Practice' programme. At the Secondary Vocational School and Vocational College of Information and Library Services in Brno, she studied vocational subjects and was also a class teacher, a position which she looks back on fondly.
She joined the Open Gate team as a tutor in 2010, and was later appointed a Behavioural Counsellor and a teacher of Study Skills. Latterly she took up the role of a special needs teacher.
Hobbies
In her free time, she likes travelling, reading, going to the theatre, and meeting new people. She is interested in architecture and design.
